Finding Letting Agents in UK Even though the profession of letting agents in UK is not a highly organised one, the letting agents are generally covered by the tough UK laws. The Association of Residential Letting Agents or ARLA was established in 1981 and it is acting as the regulatory body for professional letting agents in UK. More than 3,500 members are registered with the association at present, including several national companies with multi-branches spread around the country. The members of ARLA are required to possess a professional indemnity insurance cover. Further, the association is also having a bonding scheme to protect the money of clients, in case of any misappropriation by a particular letting agent. All the ARLA members are governed by the Code of Practice framed by the association.
Another body that guarantees protection to all the property buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants in UK is the Ombudsman for Estate Agents Scheme or OEA Scheme. The OEA was founded on January 1, 1998. The scheme can be availed by all members of the National Association of Estate Agents or NAEA and members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or RICS. OEA had extended its services to letting agents and property management agents also from June 2006.
On October 1 2008, the Office of Fair Trading or Oft made it mandatory for all estate agents to register with a new scheme known as Estate Agents Redress Scheme. The OEA scheme had been approved by OFT. The OFT had approved the OEA code of practice for residential estate agents under the Consumer Codes Approval Scheme of OFT. The UK citisens can approach OEA for resolution of all unresolved disputes regarding properties in the country.
